The Manuscript Collection including 25 000 documents was established in 1957. It comprises of more special parts. The most remarkable collection is the body of documents relating to the functioning and history of the university, here the legacy of professors, a memorial library representing the research work of the University, theses, dissertations, a photo collection, and relics can be found.
The documents of the Debrecen Summer University since the establishment in 1927 have also been a part of the collection. The University Library's documents constitute a special subcollection within the Manuscript Collection, this includes official documents issued between 1915 and 1995. The actual Manuscript Collection comprises partly of manuscript books born between the 17th and the 19th centuries and partly of contemporary manuscripts with regional references.
The subcollection of theatre history includes scripts, casts, scores of opera and operetta performances derived from the 19th century and these were taken from the library of the Csokonai Theatre.
